TAIJUTSU & ROPES - from Earth to Sky
with Ludvig Rigger (Sofia) and Em (Berlin)
In this workshop, we will focus on various body manipulation principles and techniques of Yagami Ryu Taijutsu and how to use them to improve and intensify our rope play.
Yagami Ryu Taijutsu is based on modified principles of traditional martial arts. It centers around body movement and body manipulation as an integral part of rope play. We will explore possibilities of how to use body manipulation to increase the physical and emotional intensity of our rope play.
The principles of Taijutsu create a smoother flow in our rope practice that allows us to connect and engage with our partner on a deeper physical and emotional level. Both partners are equally involved in this as Taijutsu lets us express and explore our unique relationships, sensations, and emotions. We connect and communicate on a natural and organic level.
We will also focus on practical rope techniques for floorwork, semi-suspensions, and suspensions to use in combination with the principles of Taijutsu. The combination of rope skills and taijutsu skills will give us the tools to explore the ideas of this workshop in an individual way and apply them to our own unique relationships. In addition, technical knowledge can help with reducing the risk of injuries during tying.
Some of the elements of this workshop include:
- Balance and off balance; triangle theory; transitions; locking the joints
- Rope techniques for floorwork, floorwork transitions, semi-suspensions, and suspensions

LUDVIG RIGGER
Ludvig is one of the three official Yagami Ryu instructors in Europe. Ludvig teaches Yagami Ryu in an undogmatic way. Through his attention to detail, technical proficiency, and seeking for deep connection and communication he gives this style an independent touch.
As the owner of the Shibari Center in Sofia – Bulgaria, he regularly teaches courses, workshops, and individual lessons for all levels – from beginners to professionals. His teaching experience in the last seven years with couples allows him to apply a personal approach to teaching students with different interests and needs. He has been teaching/ performing in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Greece, and Romania over the years.
He started learning Shibari in 2008 and studied with well-known European and Japanese shibari teachers before becoming an official student of Sensei Yagami Ren, which allowed him to get to know different approaches and styles of Shibari. Ludvig spent a lot of time with his Shibari master and studied the techniques and philosophies of Yagami Ryu in-depth. Sensei Yagami Ren recognized his devotion and skills and honored him for teaching his style as an official Yagami Ryu instructor.
Ludvig will teach this workshop together with his model Em. Ludvig and Em were the last presenters at Eurix No 21 in October 2022 and will use their personal rigger and model relationship to show their individual application of Yagami Ryu Taijutsu during this workshop as well as in their performance.
